Choose a photo and the model finds the subject on its own — no painting, no clicking around the outline. It is a real segmentation network, so it copes with the things a colour-based cutout cannot: a person in front of a busy street, a plant against a green wall, the gap between an arm and a body.
The model runs on your device, not on a server
The first time you use it, the weights are downloaded once and kept in your browser. After that it works with no network at all. Your photo is never uploaded, which is the part most free background removers cannot say: it is opened, cut out and saved without ever leaving the machine you are sitting at.
Fix the bits it got wrong
No model is right every time. When it drops a strap, keeps a shadow or shaves the top of someone’s hair, you paint over that spot — Bring back to add, Rub out to remove — and the cutout updates as you go. Edge trim pulls the outline in a hair when a rim of the old background comes with the subject, and Edge softness stops it looking cut with scissors.

Frequently asked questions
- Is my photo uploaded to a server?
- No. The model itself is downloaded to your browser, and your image is processed there. The picture is never transmitted, which is also why the tool keeps working once the page is loaded and you go offline.
- Why is there a download the first time?
- Because the model runs on your device rather than on our servers, its weights have to reach your browser once. It is cached afterwards, so the second image — and every image after that — starts immediately.
- It says it is running on CPU. What does that mean?
- Your browser could not give the page access to the graphics card, so the work falls back to the processor. It still works and it is still private, but the download is larger and each cutout takes several seconds rather than under one. A recent Chrome or Edge is the usual fix.
- How is this different from the other background remover?
- The other one follows colour outwards from marks you paint, which is instant and needs no download, but struggles when the subject and background are similar. This one recognises the subject, so it handles cluttered photos far better — at the cost of a one-off model download.
- Does it handle hair?
- Much better than a colour-based cutout, though not perfectly. Fine flyaway strands against a busy background are still where any automatic tool is weakest. Edge softness helps it blend, and you can always paint a stray piece back in.
- Does it save at the original resolution?
- Yes. The model works on a smaller copy so it stays quick, but the mask it produces is applied to your original image, so the file you download is the size you started with.
